The Oreck Advantage: Direct Suction

Our direct suction design delivers dirt in a straight, efficient path right to the vacuum bag. It's a streamlined design that works beautifully with a smaller motor — and one reason why Oreck bagged uprights are so lightweight. Here's how: our upright vacuums incorporate a "dirty air system" in which dirt is pulled through a fan that breaks it into smaller particles that get sucked up into the vacuum. Oreck's smaller motor drives this fan, as well as the brushroll. Because these smaller motors sit closer to the floor they provide efficient suction and are able to spin the brushroll incredibly fast.

Super-lightweight, but expected more from an expensive vacuum. This vacuum works okay, but I was not quite as impressed with it as I hoped I would be. At times, I must run the vacuum over visible debris multiple times before it will pick it up, which I was not expecting. Additionally, the black rubber material on the side constantly scuffs my white painted trim, which is an annoyance. I wish I would have tried other makes and models prior to making such a large purchase. The weight is definitely a plus. January 28, 2013
Best suction with such a lightweight vacuum. I've used many vacuums, and honestly, vacuuming is my favorite chore... the one that always calms me actually. So I enjoy vacuuming and before I tried Oreck products I used "the vacuum that never loses suction," but I have to say that it did. With my Oreck Magnesium, my carpets have never looked so clean. The vacuum is so lightweight and easy to handle. With the swivel head, I can get under my couch and other furniture. And with the long cord, I can vacuum my entire living room and kitchen without having to unplug and find a new outlet. By far, this is my favorite vacuum EVER. The only feature I missed was a hose attachment, but since I got the Power Team, that feature is still covered... and it's now easy to head out to the garage and sweep the car floors! Fastest vacuum in the west WORTH EVERY $PENNY$!! I have tried many different brands and styles, this one takes the prize. I have MS, so vacuuming used to be very tiresome. The old bulky machines I used to use "so that floors would get clean" took all my energy for the day when I was finished. Not now. The first day I got it, I vacuumed the whole upstairs then took it downstairs and did that, about 3000 sq ft total. I could carry it easily too up and down. The swivel head makes it so easy to move around walls and furniture. Carpets felt brand new when finished. I didn't realized how much dirt was left behind by old upright. You could hear the dirt actually being sucked up. The carpets "looked" clean before, but now I know they are because after a few months of use, I really don't hear much noise, except the quiet motor (compared to the old one), the rest of the family loves that too. Dog hair not a problem either. A lot was left behind deep down before, not anymore. When I changed the bag for the first time, (very easy) most of it was long dog hair left by the old machine. - wood floors have never been easier to clear either - . One thing did scare me, it wouldn't turn on one night and my son was the last one to use it. I was quickly in a panic. Jokingly my husband said "maybe the battery is dead". Well it actually was. My model has a watch battery in the handle to switch on power and turn from low to high speed, after reading the manual, my son found the battery in the handle, replaced it and all is well again. This was the best Christmas gift I ever received that was made for work. I have to admit, I have fun with this kind of work now. If you can afford it , definitely get it :) February 17, 2013
SO light and SO stong One of the winning features of this vacuum for me are how light it is. It is so easy to maneuver... The close second is the excellent suction. I am amazed that such a lightweight unit is so strong. Even my 7 year old can vacuum now! i always used the old oreck and loved it. the new oreck magnesium and the gold oreck would not pick up small particles on a hard floor. it would throw the small pieces and pick up the sand and dirt only. i bought the magnesium and gold because the rep specifically told me it would work on hard floors. the first magnesium i rec'd in nov 2012. used one time and would not start the second time. sent back and rec'd a new one. it did the same thing. i called customer service and they told me how to do something with the handle and it started. who wants a vacuum cleaner you have to work on before using it? i noticed it not picking up small particles and called customer service. i paid to send it back and was sent an oreck gold after being told by someone else that the magnesium is better for plush carpet and i needed the gold for hard floors. much to my despair the gold would pick up dirt and sand really well but not small particles. i sent it back and bought a different brand which has an attachment for hard floors that will dust and vacuum at same time.
