Too cheaply made to justify the price
This vacuum is very convenient, and it has strong suction, but it is too cheaply made to justify the price. The plastic is so thin on the removable part where you put the bag, that it broke and I have to replace it. The floor attachment also broke passing it under furniture (you KNOW a floor attachment is going to be hitting things, right?). The retractable cord will not stay extended, so now I have to hold it in my hand as I hold the handle of the unit. I use this twice a week for my tiny two-room home, and it started to break after the third week (6 uses).

quality of merchandise
Besides having very little power to do the job, trying to put the bags in is a pain in the neck. The cheap little plastic holder that holds the bag breaks at the drop of a hat. The bags are too expensive for the quality of this machine. After finally giving up trying to replace the bag my husband threw the entire machine in the trash.

Suction is terrific....but
I purchased this canister for quick cleanup on my floors with no carpet.
I am satisfied with the suction....but the ease is use is awful.
I cannot get the machine to pull along behind me. I think it is the location of the hose coming from the canister.
I don't like the plastic fastening into the steel tube holding the floor attachment. Seriously, this sure misses the mark! Not up to Oreck standards.

very disappointing
I have wanted an Oreck vacuum for years and finally got the$199.00 canister vac. It is a terrible disappointment. I tried to vacuum my carpeting and it barely touched the surface of the rug and is very hard to push. It's ok for hard floors but definitely not for rugs. A $69.00 Bissell does a better job. I wanted an Oreck becausse I needed a canister to get under the furniture and I hate the bagless vacuums. I had very high hopes, but I was let down. I would have sent it back, but the shipping costs are too high. I'm very upset with the machine.

Changing bag not simple
Loved the idea of this product as I have hardwood floors (and dogs) - it does very well although doesn't handle as smooth as I expectd. Change the bag - could not get it to close properly and the latch came off. Duct tape. . . . .

GREAT FOR BARE FLOORS!
Reading the customer reviews online.. I was hesitant.. With a 30 day trial, I had absolutely nothing to lose.. so I gave it a shot. I have all bare floors, and a few throw rugs.. I could not believe the suction on this product. It sucked the dust/dirt/pet hair up without beating up my floors. Also, it cut my cleaning time in half! On the carpet, however, this doesnt have a roller brush, so of course it would be difficult to use!.. but for my bare floors and rugs it did a great job. The Oreck brand stood by its name once again! Thank you Oreck. To those doubting this product.. if you have carpet.. try an UPRIGHT! They are just as lightweight and easy to use!

Works for what it is
Mostly hardwood floor and two dogs, in a dusty climate. Needed mostly for chasing dust/pet hair bunnies. Works fine for that. Not the best on carpets, but OK.

Best Little Vac Ever!
The Oreck Quest Canister Vac is the best toy ever. I say toy because I played with my Auntie's while helping her clean and then she bought me one because I loved it so much. This little vac got all the corners, molding, under the beds, ceiling, ceiling fans, little throw rugs, stairs and more. I just kept going and hardly missed a beat when I had to change the attachment from the floor attachment to the little 2 in 1. It really is a workhorse and it followed me around with ease.
Auntie has hardwood floors throughout and I have mostly hardwood in my home and it did a great job. Auntie has 2 cats and I have a dog, 2 cats, and kids so there is constantly fur, dust bunnies, and little bits of dirt from outside, clean up and dust was a snap.
I do not recommend using this little vac on wall to wall carpet, it's just not powerful enough. I tried it on my living room carpet and it struggled a bit, but that is what the full size upright vac is for. Also, my house is only 1,000 square feet, so it perfect for a small house. I am not sure it would be adequate for a mansion, but the manufacturer recommends it for small homes and apartments. If you have a big house, you should probably get the Oreck Pro Canister Vac.
As for the dust clothes, dusters, brooms and all the other different gadgets in the pantry, those are all going to the curb. This little vac replaced them all and does a better job. Now I want the Oreck Floor Steamer next.
