NO MORE DUST IN YOUR FACE
NEW VACUUM BAGS LOCK IT IN

March 15, 2005

Bagged or bagless? Bagless vacuum cleaners may seem convenient, but do they stand up against bagged vacuums where it really counts -- in removing dirt, dust and allergens from the home?

When bagless vacuum dirt containers are emptied, dirt, dust and allergens can spew back into the home and onto hands and face and into eyes, according to recent tests by Oreck Corporation Research Laboratories.

"Thorough cleaning is essential to reduce indoor contaminants that can affect the health of anyone, especially children," said Dr. John Winder, allergist and chair of the Nationwide Asthma Screening Program of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.

The solution to a healthier home and cleaner vacuuming experience is an advanced self-sealing vacuum bag that locks in dust and dirt. This system is found in the new Oreck® XL21® Upright Vacuum Cleaner. Oreck's new vacuum bag is not just a dirt collector. It is also a filtering device integral to the vacuum's total filtration system.

Oreck's advanced HEPA filtration system captures 99.9 percent of dust mites, dirt and allergens down to 0.3 microns or 1/250th the width of a human hair. This superior filtration is accomplished by seven layers of filtration: a large three-layer inner bag inside a four-layer hypo-allergenic outer bag that utilizes the same technology as surgical masks.

"Capturing the smallest particles is especially important since these can be inhaled deeply into the lungs," said Dr. Winder. "Common household dust can contain allergens such as dust mites, pollen, ragweed and pet dander as well as bacteria and mold spores," Winder reported.

"When deciding between bagged or bagless, the most important factors in selecting a vacuum should be cleaning effectiveness, filtration and sanitation. Never trade a gimmick for real cleaning results," said David Oreck, founder of Oreck Corporation.

To contain dust and for easy, convenient use, the new Oreck vacuum bag slips easily into the vacuum and locks into place. For improved filtration, the outer vacuum bag is tightly bonded by ultrasonic lamination. The outer Oreck bag is the only vacuum bag with Microban® antimicrobial product protection that inhibits the growth of bacteria, mildew and mold on the bag.

"Bagged vacuums have a major role to fill in creating a healthier home," said Dr. Winder. To attack dust and allergens in the home, health and cleaning experts recommend vacuuming floors and all surfaces at least once a week. More frequent cleaning is advised if anyone in the home has allergies or asthma.

Oreck vacuum cleaners and vacuum bags are available at 450 Oreck Clean Home Centers across the country, including the new Oreck Clean Home Center in Manhattan at 2003 Broadway, at 68th.

For years of effective allergen control and maximum cleaning, the Oreck XL21 Vacuum Cleaner is backed by a 21-year warranty. Twenty-one free annual tune-ups are provided at Oreck centers as an extra measure, if ever needed, to ensure high performance.
