DIRT AND THE CITY --
NEW ORECK CLEAN HOME CENTER HELPS MANHATTAN CLEAN UP

March 15, 2005

Cleaning is important to families and their sense of happiness and satisfaction, according to a recent survey by the Soap & Detergent Association. Urban life is filled with dirt, dust, irritating, invisible particles and other allergens that can affect health and mood, according to 88 percent of respondents.

With hyper-busy lives, New Yorkers have little time for cleaning. A powerful new ally in the quest for cleaner, healthier homes arrives in Manhattan in time for spring cleaning.

To provide advanced cleaning technology and smart cleaning strategies for the way New Yorkers live, David Oreck and Oreck Corporation open the first, in Manhattan, Oreck Clean Home Center, 2003 Broadway (at 68th St.). There are 450 Oreck Clean Home Centers coast to coast.

In addition to providing top quality, innovative cleaning machines and products, there are actually trained professionals to help solve cleaning dilemmas.

The Oreck Clean Home Center also repairs any brand of vacuum cleaner, provides an Oreck XL® vacuum as a loaner and for a nominal fee will pick up and deliver.

"Our new Center and Oreck technology is designed for efficient, effective urban cleaning," said David Oreck, inventor of the lightweight, powerful, produced-in-America Oreck vacuum cleaners and founder of Oreck Corporation.

"New York isn't Nebraska. The cleaning demands are different," said Oreck. "The often tight living spaces in New York can get dirt intensive. Apartments and lives can get messy," he said. "Dirt and stress can pile up."

"It's common sense, people feel better with cleaner homes," Oreck said.

A clean home is important to the health of everyone, but especially to the child crawling on the floor. Toddlers put up to 76 things per hour in their mouths, according to Dr. John W. Roberts, master environmentalist in the "Up Close and Toxic" documentary. A top-performing, easy-to-use, bagged vacuum cleaner is the first line of defense to attack dirt in the city.

"Bagless vacuum cleaners may be a trend," Oreck said. "But bagless vacuums, when emptied, can spew dirt, dust and allergens back into the home, onto hands, face and into eyes according to black light tests in Oreck laboratories.

No more dust in your face and repeating efforts: A self-sealing, patented bag in the new Oreck® XL21® vacuum cleaner locks in dirt and dust. What's in the bag stays in the bag.

Too tired to push yourself to clean? "Vacuuming shouldn't be a workout," says Oreck. "Why push a heavy vacuum after a tough day in the city?"

Most vacuum cleaners weigh in at 26-28 lbs. -- the Oreck XL upright is only 8 lbs., so light you can move it with a finger. It even folds down flat for easy storage in tight spaces. Slide it under a bed, sofa with a skirted cover or hang it on a hook or hanger flat against the wall in a closet.

To capture 99.9 percent of allergens, including the smallest particles down to .3 microns or 1/250th of a human hair, the Oreck XL21 vacuum cleaner has a HEPA filtration system, with seven layers of filtration.

For more results, less stress, a smart approach to cleaning is Oreck's Total Cleaning System™ that works with these essential rules: organize, prioritize and streamline.

"Develop a plan and stick to it. Set realistic cleaning goals," says David Oreck.

The new Oreck Clean Home Center in Manhattan marks David Oreck's return to the city where he began his 40-year plus career and developed his passion for advanced home technology.

In New York, before founding his own company, he helped introduce black and white and color television, automatic washers and microwave ovens.

An all-American success story, entrepreneur, David Oreck founded Oreck Corporation in 1963. Going up against the giants when he started, David Oreck reengineered the vacuum cleaner with his revolutionary concept and marketed his new machine under the Oreck brand. Oreck continues to innovate his products as technology and consumer needs evolve.

Oreck cleaning machines, available at the new Oreck center in Manhattan, include advanced bagged upright vacuums, compact canister vacuums with tools, multi-floor cleaners, advanced air purifiers and Oreck Green Safe™ cleaning products.
