Our direct suction design delivers dirt in a straight, efficient path right to the vacuum bag. It's a streamlined design that works beautifully with a smaller motor — and one reason why Oreck bagged uprights are so lightweight. Here's how: our upright vacuums incorporate a "dirty air system" in which dirt is pulled through a fan that breaks it into smaller particles that get sucked up into the vacuum. Oreck's smaller motor drives this fan, as well as the brushroll. Power cleaning
The magnesium is a powerful cleaning machine and so easy to handle except for the on/off switch position which eventually I will get use to, I think! The cleaning performance of this vacuum is outstanding and it seems like nothing is left behind. As a previous owner of the XL for many years I've always appreciated Oreck's quality.
You do need the handheld for corners and hard to reach areas but I find with the power of the Magnesium I use the handheld less frequently.

Great vacuum Get excited!
When I first used this vacuum, the first thing I noticed was how light it was! You know how you have to sometimes pick up a vacuum to get around things, well that is not an issue with this vacuum!
It is not real quiet, but not real loud either. With the dual speeds, "low" is fairly quiet, yet still pretty powerful! You know how it says " it lays virtually flat for easy cleaning under furniture". It does, somewhat, but the rear wheels make it harder to clean under furniture! They are rather large.
Works well on carpet and hard surfaces!
Cleans very well, easily, VERY lightweight and IT'S AN ORECK!
Recommended! A ... not an A+ though

Give it a chance! Awesome vacuum!!
This is a GREAT vacuum if you give it a chance and use it for awhile. At first i was a little shocked at the toy like appearance but i must say after using the Magnesium for the past 2 weeks i love it. We are in a 4 story home and this is a life saver. As far as vacuuming carpet its awesome and the same on hardwood, nothing is kicked around. Seems like it will last a long long time and the price makes it well worth it when you figure in the warranty that comes with it. All i can say is order it, give it a chance and i promise there is nothing else on the market this light that vacuums this good with this warranty.

Magnesium is the best upright we have ever owned!!
This vac is fantastic. It is very very light and therefore very very easy to use. It does stairs without any strain and we discovered we can lift it up and use it to "sweep" the cat hair off our couches and chairs microfiber upholstery! It also sweeps hard surfaces on the low setting. And while the brushes rotate, the suction keeps any larger particles going in the bag rather than being shot forward by the brushes like with our other vacs.
It is definitely more expensive than other brands-----but in this case you definitely get what you pay for and its worth every penny. It has a HEPA filter so it will help with our allergies and is simple to use. Off/on, two speeds and thats it. And if you get something stuck in it it shuts off automatically. Top all of this off with a 7 year parts and labor warranty and you have an amazing product.
Our house will be cleaner as a result of this purchase because its no longer a chore to sweep. And we do not work for Oreck!

Came back to Oreck!
I bought an exspensive name brand vac last year and hated it!, it stated it never loses suction and ease of use. Well not so! I went back to Oreck when I saw this new model. Mainly because of the well known history of ease of use & light weight package. I would recommend this one to all. It truly is what it says.

Awesome
I have always wanted an Oreck and finally purchased the magnesium. I absolutely love it. I weighs next to nothing and it runs by itself, practically! The only thing I would add to this sweeper is an automatic cord rewinder, other than that it is absolutely perfect and I actually look forward to vacuuming, and I am not domestic! Thank you for making this wonderful machine.

Fantastic!!!
I have owned several other vacuum cleaners in the past and I made a promise that when my last one stopped working, I would consider buying an Oreck. Well, the last one bit the dust, did my research, and I purchased the "new" Oreck Magnesium. All I ever needed was an Oreck! I really like vacuuming my home now. It is so light to carry around and the suction power is fantastic. It is a little pricey, but with a 7-year warranty, I will definitely get my monies worth.
Don't hesitate...buy the "new" Oreck Magnesium!

LOVE THIS VACUUM!!!
I received the vacuum yesterday (super fast shipping and it was free) and I couldn’t be more pleased. I didn’t realize how inadequate my old Hoover was until I used this one. It practically runs itself and transitions from carpet to bare floors without a difference in the cleaning ability. My mom has been trying to get me to buy an Oreck for years and now I know why. Well worth the price.

Impressive performance for its weight.
I needed something for my Mom that was very light, easy to use and powerful. I'm replacing/ augmenting a Dyson DC23 which is, I'm sorry to say utter junk at cleaning. I'm so far impressed by the Magnesium's ability to agitate mid-pile carpeting and remove dirt while being extremely easy to carry, move and operate. I do however, wish it had some concession for edge-cleaning, brighter LEDs and even more suction.

Oreck Magnesium "The absolute Best Vacuum I have purchased"
I have gone through 10 vacuums in the past 10-12 years. From moderately priced to expensive commercial models. I have very thick, and very long napped carpeting. Most of the vacuums that I had purchased couldn't sweep this carpet, some were almost impossible to push, even those with power drive. Others just couldn't take the abuse of my wife. She is very rough on vacuums. The Oreck Magnesium works so well on this long thick carpet, it's almost unbelievable. It is so insanely light and powerful yet takes absolutely no effort to push or pull the vacuum. Great suction as well. It seems to be indestructible, even for my wife. What a great vacuum cleaner, my wife absolutely loves it. I tried it and I understand why she loves it so much. You have at least try this vacuum cleaner to see why I am so impressed with it.

This product is a dream come true!!!
Have been looking for a vacuum that would handle easily on all surfaces. It is very light weight and the manuverability is great. We have an area rug that was very difficult to vacuum--with the Magnesium it vacuums in every direction without much effort on all surfaces--makes cleaning effortless. Did not mark durability as I just received it but hopefully it will measure up as most Oreck products do.

All around a great vacuum!
After nearly 9 years my old Buster-B finally bit the dust this past weekend. My upright is still going strong but I wanted to find a newer Oreck that would "adjust" to the carpet height and bare floors as my older model was difficult to use on my area rugs due to the strong suction power. After a little research I set my sights on the new Magnesium and handheld vac combo. I brought it home and WOW! It literally GLIDES across ALL surfaces and I vacuumed @ 2,000 sq. ft. and barely worked up a sweat. I am VERY pleased with my new vacuum and it is well worth the price. The lower end uprights last about a year if you're lucky and I got 9 years out of my last Oreck, and it still works as well as the day I bought it. The new Magnesium is sooo lightweight and easy to use. Great product Oreck!

Love the lightness and suction of this vacuum.
I recently tried out the Oreck Magnesium at my local Oreck store. Amazing vacuum. It is difficult for me to push my old Oreck vacuum over my new plush carpeting, but the new model would go with no trouble. I tried it over different textures of carpet at the store and also on wood floor; what an amazing job it did. Would have purchased it that day, but have to wait till I have more funds. I will wait until I can afford this vacuum as no other will do what I need it to do and not be difficult for me to push!
