Oreck® Orbiter® Ultra Multi-Purpose Floor Machine
Daily User Evaluation
I use my Oreck floor machine daily maintaining a large home using it on every flooring type imaginable and figured I would Write a detailed assessment of its performance after reading other peoples reviews.
Starting from the bottom,
The motor on this is an ample 1/2 HP it is powerful enough to perform well. Even after extended usage it stay cool and performs well. The weight of the motor and lower motor case is great, If the unit weighed ten pounds like a vacuum it would not be able to scrub, In this case weight is important.
The cord is of heavy duty construction being of a decent gauge as to not heat up during long periods of operation. The length is perfect.
Im a 6'2" and it works perfect for me also my wife being 5'3" she has no complaints. It provides good leverage to effortlessly swing the machine where needed.
The handle itself is a drawback in my opinion. Having your hands that close together and in that position tends to contribute to discomfort. Remember I use mine sometimes for several hours. No hand grips just hard plastic This part needs a redesign.
This part is the single biggest safety issue on the machine. The switch is a lighted rocker style switch that is unprotected from accidential start-up. Many times I have went to plug in the machine and had it come on violently swinging the handle around the room damaging anything in its path including a hole in my bedroom wall. The switch needs to be protected in this regard or have a feature like professional floor machines that will not allow start up if your hands are not in the operating postion. Also it is not sealed. Being you use the mechine in possible wet conditions this is a must. At a minimum it needs a rubberized covered switch.
I would say all in all im happy with the oreck, It pulls it weight around the house but does have shortcomings. In my opinion the safety issues need addressing. The bonnets are expensive as a 20" bonnet for my large professional machine is only 14 bucks the good news is you dont have to order bonnets online any janitorial store can get generic 13" low profile bonnets with scrub strips. The brushes break down quickly as well during extended usage. During short use this shouldnt be too much of an issue.
I would have to give this unit a C+ as my grade.
Hope this helps! Joe K

I love love love this machine!! I have tried many steam cleaners and products and nothing compares to my Oreck Orbiter. My carpets look like I had them professionally cleaned and I don't have to worry about waiting hours for them to dry! Also when I moved into my home the laminate floor had a sticky dirty residue stuck on the floor and no moping could get this stuff off. I bought the brown scrub pad and used it along with some stripper I bought and the floors look brand new. I added some pictures to show how great this machine is. Now I can live in peace knowing my home is clean and theres no fear of walking bare footed lol <3

I used my coupon from Oreck to try out the Orbiter machine. I tried it out 3 times before actually purchasing my own Orbiter cleaner. I have had my Orbiter for over 3 years now and I love it! There is nothing that hits my carpet that the Orbiter can't get out! The ease to clean carpet is so simple and easy to handle!

You Can't Beat It!
I recently bought a foreclosed home which was in need a deep cleaning. The carpet was in terrible shape, and the grout was even worse. I've been an Oreck owner since 2004, so I naturally thought of the Orbiter when I needed a machine.
I was able to dry clean the whole house in about 12 hours. The carpet was extremely soiled and now looks close to new. However, the dry carpet cleaner was not able to remove some pet urine stains, so those carpets are being replaced. Not the Oribter's falt, just the fact that urine is literally impossible to remove at such large volumes. I will being using the Orbiter to maintain my new carpet monthly.
I was able to restore grout which looked black into completely white. The trick is to strip the floor first, which the Oribter can do with it's tile brush. I can't get any clearer than that. Black to white grout.
This machine is also insanely quiet, and you can not beat the 10 year warranty. Totally worth the money. If this one ever fails, I'll be buying another.

GREAT PRODUCT! Hidden gem. Oreck should promote this more.
This product can do everything to every surface in your home. Tile, wood, stone, marble, laminate, carpets. Carpets you say? The Dry carpet cleaning system works miracles. I had stains that were set in for years get completely erased.

GREAT QUALITY AND EASY TO USE
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO MAKE YOUR HOUSEHOLD CLEANING PROJECTS EASIER. EXCELLENT QUALITY AND QUIET. I USED IT ON MY OUTSIDE TILE WITH A LITTLE SPRAY BOTTLE OF BLEACH AND THE DIRT CAME RIGHT UP.

Great with a negative qualifier!
I have used this item weekly for the last three years. We have large dogs and have been remodeling so I have had to deal with a lot of dirt and dust. A year ago I noticed a film on the hardwood floors under the cabinets where the edge of the pad hits and can't get it removed. Additionally my wood has become dull and some of the planks (hand scraped) have either lost their finish or have a film built up in the grain of the wood. The wood manufacturer feels it's due to the heat/friction generated by the Orbiter, it does get warm. The Orbiter and Oreck Timberworks are the only thing I have found to actually clean the floors, but at a cost to the wood finish.

Oriber--Great product idea that needs refinement.
The Orbiter is solidly built but not well-designed. Our home flooring is 100% rectified porcelain tile which means the shiny surface reveals dirt/smears very easily. The Oreck dealer sold us on this product for it's durability, quality of construction & ease of use. We used it once to attempt to clean our floor and immediately returned it for the following reasons: 1. The cleaning pads held on to the orbiting plate via a hook-loop system that is entirely too cumbersome to remove the pads for rinsing. 2. After rinsing the pads in the solution and wringing them as much as should be reasonable, there was still sufficient liquid in the pad that, when we started the machine again, water/solution was flung out by the centrifugal forces of oscillation and far too much water/solution remained behind after using the Orbiter. While we received a full refund on the Orbiter, we lost approximately $75 on the Oreck cleaning pads & floor cleaner which had been partially used in our product trial. The product could be vastly improved through A. The use of a splatter-guard to surround the pad (attachment not available to our knowledge) and B. Fewer Hooks & Loops to allow easier removal of pads. Until then, I would not reconsider purchase.
